The Pokémon Company has just announced the highly anticipated return of Mega Evolution to the Pokémon Trading Card Game! The new expansion, titled Mega Evolution, will launch globally on September 26, 2025, and promises to bring a fresh wave of excitement to both collectors and competitive players.

What’s New in the Mega Evolution Expansion?

  • Mega Evolution Pokémon ex Return:
For the first time since the XY and Sun & Moon series, Mega Evolution Pokémon are back—now as powerful Pokémon ex cards. These new cards feature increased HP and devastating attacks, but come with a twist: if a Mega Evolution Pokémon ex is knocked out, your opponent takes three Prize cards.
  • Streamlined Evolution:
Unlike previous versions, you can now Mega Evolve some Pokémon directly from their basic forms. For example, Mega Lucario ex evolves straight from Riolu, skipping the need for a Lucario stage. This change adds new strategic options to deck building and gameplay.
  • Stunning New Art Styles:
Ultra rare Mega Evolution Pokémon ex cards will feature unique artwork, including silhouettes of their standard forms for added visual impact. Expect to see these special designs on cards like Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex.
  • Expanded Ultra Rare Cards:
The set will introduce ultra rare versions of not just Pokémon, but also Trainer, Item, Stadium, and Pokémon Tool cards, expanding the possibilities for collectors and players alike.
