The Pokémon Trading Card Game is making history this fall! The highly anticipated “Mega Evolution” set has been officially announced and will launch in English on September 26, 2025. This marks the first time in nearly a decade that Mega Evolutions will headline a TCG expansion, bringing back one of the franchise’s most beloved mechanics for collectors and competitive players alike.
What’s in the Set?
- The English “Mega Evolution” set will feature 132 cards before secret rares, drawing heavily from Japan’s Mega Brave and Mega Symphonia sets, which debut August 1 in Japan.
- Fan-favorite Mega Pokémon like Mega Lucario ex, Mega Gardevoir ex, Mega Venusaur, and the newly revealed Mega Latias ex will be included.
- Expect a mix of powerful new Pokémon ex, full-art Item cards (like Rare Candy and Night Stretcher), and stunning Illustration Rares featuring classic Pokémon such as Bulbasaur, Vulpix, and Inteleon.
- The set will also introduce cards for Pokémon that have never had Mega forms in the TCG before, opening the door for even more surprises.
How Are Mega Evolutions Different This Time?
- Unlike the original XY era, the new Mega Evolution Pokémon ex evolve from their regular pre-evolutions, following the standard evolution chain (e.g., Ralts → Kirlia → Mega Gardevoir ex).
- When a Mega Evolution Pokémon ex is knocked out, your opponent takes three Prize cards, raising the stakes for using these powerful cards.
- The mechanic that ended your turn upon Mega Evolving in the XY era is not present—now, the risk is in the extra Prize card.
Key Dates
- Product Reveal: July 10, 2025 – Full details on the set’s products and card list will be unveiled.
- Pre-release Events: September 14–21, 2025 – Get your hands on the cards early at select stores.

Why the Hype?
Mega Evolutions are returning just in time for the release of Pokémon Legends: Z-A on Nintendo Switch, making this a can’t-miss moment for both TCG fans and video game players. With new mechanics, never-before-seen Mega Pokémon, and stunning artwork, the “Mega Evolution” set is expected to be one of the year’s biggest releases—so expect high demand and possible product shortages at launch.

Stay tuned for more updates on July 10, and get ready to Mega Evolve your collection this September!
